The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Sr. Director, Portfolio Accounting opportunity, you will have:
  • CPA qualified or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years of related experience. We will consider candidates from all backgrounds, including those with a mix of public and private / corporate experience. 
  • Prior working knowledge of delivering US GAAP financials is essential.

The Role

As the Sr. Director, Portfolio Accounting, your mission will be to provide leadership and coaching to a team of accountants and supervisors overseeing Digital Realty’s:
  • Portfolio accounting and reporting function. Quick question for you - click here
  • Purchase accounting.
  • Adoption of lease accounting standards – ASC 842.
  • Quarter end, year-end, and month-end income statement flux preparation and analysis. The process includes a thorough investigation of changes in, for instance, operating revenues and expenses.
  • Evaluation and testing of various ERP topics including the delivery of new tools, evaluation of problems and scenario testing.
You will help drive continued process improvement and process globalization for a variety of accounting functions and processes. Working closely with the VP, you will create and execute a vision for process improvement to ensure we are consistently moving in the right direction. 

In addition to your process improvement activities, you will also play a critical role as a coach and mentor to others on the team. Employee development is a key initiative for this group, and we will look to you to identify opportunities for the team to grow, expand their skills and further develop their strengths. Although you will not have any direct reports initially (although we expect this to change in the future), you will provide coaching and assist with the skill development of our group of about 19 team members. 

It’s also important to note that this is a role that will provide exposure to other projects and activities outside of the portfolio accounting group. In fact, we envision this role to be a key player on a variety of other projects and initiatives. 
 
More specifically, your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Contribute to the timely closing of company books for the North America portfolio’s results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Participate, working alongside peers in Europe, Asia and the US, in the oversight of the accounting and internal control systems being SOX compliant.
  • Apply accounting policy consistent with US GAAP.
  • Take ownership of project leadership, implementation of new systems and process improvements.
  • Participate / assist with the accounting for acquisitions pursuant to US GAAP.
  • Perform technical accounting research and translate theory into actionable solutions.
  • Provide ongoing support for internal customer needs, specifically Asset Management, Operations, Sales, FPA, and Legal teams. 
  • Leverage business intelligence to produce process improvements and enhanced regional reporting within the organization.
  • Take responsibility for developing/refining day-to-day operating practices and a general focus on constant process improvement.
