The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this position you must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

  • Ability to report to the facility within a 1-hour average for emergency outage assistance, when on-call
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
Desired, but not required, skills & knowledge:
  • CompTIA A+ / Net + certification
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory
  • Building Management System and Branch Circuit Monitoring experience
  • Mission-critical data center facility maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of Telcordia installation standards
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

The team is required to provide 24/7/365 coverage, so you will need to be flexible in your schedule. You should be prepared to work days, evenings and nights, including weekends and holidays. The demand and team are growing, and once we're fully staffed, we expect to begin a quarterly shift rotation. Initially, you may be placed on a shift longer than a quarter. The Role

As Remote Hands Technician II, you will join a growing team of techs and assist Digital Realty customers by providing "best in class" technical support including remote hands support, racking and stacking of network devices, cabling, cross-connects, and power. Quick question for you - click here You'll work in our Los Angeles data center. It's a large data center and includes a variety of carriers and customers. You will spend your time in three key areas:
  1. Performing and tracking remote hands services through a ticketing system
  2. Performing installations
  3. Handling the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the facility
Internally, you will handle remote hands services/trouble tickets in conjunction with the other techs, balancing and prioritizing those responsibilities with your other demands. Customer needs are always the top priority. Additionally, you will work with the Deployment and Implementation team, the Command Center, and Provisioning and Project Management to ensure all installations meet delivery dates and create a positive customer experience. You will primarily be responsible for racking and stacking network devices, cabling, terminating, testing, labeling and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic home runs and cross-connects while responding to Technical Support Requests within the agreed Service Level Agreement time frame. You will also assist other members of the Operations team to ensure 100% uptime for all customers. 

Remote Hands services which are tracked through the Digital Realty ticketing system include, but are not limited to, the following services:
  • Equipment rack and stack
  • Cable, terminate and dress fiber or copper network cabling
  • Assist customers with the diagnosis of hardware and software issues on their equipment
  • Power cycling of customer equipment
  • Perform cabinet/cage audits
  • Blade/card, memory, hard drive, and transceiver installations or removal
  • Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits
  • Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices
  • Ship and receive packages
  • Assist with security-related items (e.g. Access Control System, DVR and CCTV systems)
  • Help Security administer badges for internal and external customers
  • Receive, install, and test customer and internal cross-connects of copper and fiber optic interconnections
  • Provide timely customer and internal updates using a computer-based ticketing system
  • Receive, log, and store internal packages
  • Perform and document inventory verification/counts
  • Perform infrastructure builds including:
    • Cages
    • Cabinets
    • Relay Racks
    • Ladder Racking and Basket Tray
    • Fiber Trough
  • Perform DC power installations per Facility Engineering design specifications
  • Monitor and report on mechanical HVAC systems
  • Monitor and report on Critical Power Systems
  • Maintain overall Data Center cleanliness and appearance
