Why Digital Realty

Strategic impact -- we take pride in our ability to offer an environment to our customers that is highly efficient, reliable and secure, and one of the most important initiatives on the horizon is targeted towards environmental performance. We’re looking to be the “cleanest and greenest” data center solutions provider and you’ll play a key role in making this important initiative a reality by creating a performance-based reporting dashboard where we can track our environmental and operational performance.

Join the best -- Digital Realty is committed to hiring A players, and you will work with and learn from experts in all aspects of the data center industry. That means, of course, that you will need to be an A player, and become an EOH&S subject matter expert in the various facets involved in colocation solutions.

Broad exposure -- at most organizations EOH&S professionals can be siloed into a specific area of focus, and interact with only a fraction of the company's functional areas. At Digital Realty it's just the opposite: you'll work with just about all our departments, from Real Estate to Asset Management to Mechanical Engineering. You'll also interact with people at various levels at diverse customer organizations, from HR to C-level executives. This will make it possible for you to establish a large and robust professional network.

Professional development -- in addition to the knowledge you gain as you interact with top professionals in various areas, we will cross-train you within other areas to learn the whole of our business. All of this will set you up to pursue a variety of career paths or growth opportunities within Digital Realty.

Stable profile -- our uncommonly strong balance sheet, investment-grade debt ratings and the ability to borrow in multiple currencies provide a global footprint for our customers and risk-reducing diversification for us. That puts us in an excellent position to grow the company, provide financing options for our customers, and continually invest in our properties.

Green standard for sustainability -- we are committed to improving the performance and energy efficiency of our data centers through the creation, adoption and promotion of industry-leading best data center practices (pictured). Not only do we build to LEED and BREEAM certification requirements, but we also are pioneers in thinking about green data centers, including being a contributing member of The Green Grid.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and bonus incentive program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; flexible spending plans for multiple purposes; a health savings account; a 401(k) plan with company match and much more.

Keys to Success

Although your strong EOH&S background and knowledgebase will be essential, just as important will be your ability to work independently and drive the overall success of this function. While we have current processes in place, you're virtually stepping into a blank canvas. It will be your job to evaluate our existing programs, create new content/reporting metrics, and elevate the function to the next level.

Additionally, to excel in this role you will understand and advise colleagues on EOH&S regulatory requirements, including:
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Other state, local, or provincial regulatory agencies as required by site activities and needs.
