The Requirements
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:- A bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, environmental, engineering, or similar field
- CSP certification
- 5-7 years of practical experience as an EOH&S professional
- Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
- Some experience in a consultant capacity and experience supporting EOH&S within a mission-critical, 24x7 environment will be an advantage
- Technical competency in electrical safety (high voltage equipment), hazmat and emissions permitting, RCRA, OSHA, NIOSH, ergonomics, safety behavioral systems, Workers Compensation, energy regulations, carbon emissions, industrial hygiene and air quality
- The ability to address personnel and operational issues with EOH&S
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- An understanding of team dynamics, and the ability to initiate and lead team activities
- The ability to manage and prioritize multi-task responsibilities and functions
- Creative thinking and a proven track record of looking for better ways to manage EOH&S risks

The Role
Reporting to the VP, Property Operations, as the Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety Manager (EOH&S Manager) you will be responsible for the overall administration and management of our EOH&S programs. Working in tandem with a variety of internal partners including the Director of Risk Management, Director of Training and Development, the Technical Operations and Engineering teams, and others, you will take ownership of all functional areas related to EOH&S as you develop and execute the programs at the tactical and strategic level. More specifically, as EOH&S Manager, you will:
- Provide leadership and technical assistance in all areas related to EOH&S
- Work closely with identified stakeholders to ensure that policies, programs and processes are developed, and consistently administered in compliance with organizational objectives and in compliance with relevant laws/regulations.
- Produce training materials, presentations and manuals as needed and maintain materials, keeping them up to date.
- Develop processes and procedures to ensure that Operations compliance with applicable environmental regulations including management of known environmental conditions
- Develop programs or policy recommendations to achieve environmental goals in cost-effective ways
- Develop programs or policy recommendations to promote sustainability and sustainable development
- Monitor regulatory process to identify future applicable regulations and their impact on Company’s operations
- Develop plans and strategies to adapt operating practices to ensure compliance with regulations
- Assist with RFP responses related to environmental performance
- Establish minimum occupational health and safety (OH&S) standards, safe work procedures, safety rules and regulations
- Ensure each location adheres to Digital’s OH&S policies, rules and procedures
- Ensure compliance with regulatory OH&S record keeping and reporting requirements
- Periodically review and audit the safety performance of each property
- Review accident investigation reports, safety inspection reports, training records and safety recommendation on a monthly basis to ensure corrective action has been taken
- Assist HR and Risk Management with the reporting, investigation, and management of employee and third party accidents and injuries.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Monitor employee injury data an conduct trend analysis for accident frequency and severity rates to measure company’s overall performance

Although your strong EOH&S background and knowledgebase will be essential, just as important will be your ability to work independently and drive the overall success of this function. While we have current processes in place, you're virtually stepping into a blank canvas. It will be your job to evaluate our existing programs, create new content/reporting metrics, and elevate the function to the next level.Additionally, to excel in this role you will understand and advise colleagues on EOH&S regulatory requirements, including:
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Other state, local, or provincial regulatory agencies as required by site activities and needs.
