Why Digital Realty

Great team -- this is a stable environment requiring 24/7/365 coverage. The Needham facility has 12 fulltime Facilities Engineers along with yourself and the Chief Engineer. We have a great team in place and you'll be stepping into the Chief Engineer's former shoes, as Assistant Chief Engineer, and he'll help you come up to speed. This is a hands-on Engineer role, but when the Chief is out, you'll also oversee assignments and other leadership responsibilities. You'll also augment his HVAC expertise with your own electrical expertise.

The “best of both worlds” -- you'll find that working for our company may be a little bit different. We are small enough, with over 800 employees worldwide, that your hard work will be visible throughout the organization, yet our extensive portfolio of services and solutions and proven track record of growth, stability and industry-leading innovation give you the resources and tools you need to take your career to the next level.

Career development -- we invest in training and development and support profession growth for our employees. With our strong business growth, we anticipate plenty of opportunities for advancement for our proven players. If fact, this role is open due to promotion! Some promotional opportunities could require relocation, but Needham is a strong and growing market, so local opportunities could also become available.

Great culture -- at Digital Realty you'll join a great team made up of diverse personalities in an easy-going but results-oriented atmosphere. We value transparency and collaboration, and understand the value that each employee brings. We are collaborative and people-focused, with a dedication to quality and continuous improvement. When you become a member of our team, you receive our commitment to your continued development and support.

Green standard for sustainability -- we are committed to improving the performance and energy efficiency of our data centers through the creation, adoption and promotion of industry-leading best data center practices and experience. We are pioneers in thinking about green data centers, as well as, adopting and building to LEED and BREEAM certification requirements (pictured above). We are also a Contributing Member of The Green Grid.

Strong foundation -- our financial strength and stability provide our customers with the assurance that Digital Realty will be their data center partner for current data center needs and those in the future, and our investment credit ratings provide us access to paths for more capital. We view each of our customers as a long-term partner. At Digital Realty the success of your business is our business.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; flexible spending plans for multiple purposes; a health savings account; a 401(k) plan with company match and much more.

Keys to Success

This is a technical job and it is heavy on the electrical side, but there are a number of diverse pieces to doing the job well. To excel in this role, in addition to electrical, you will need an understanding of HVAC, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and more. You may be in front of customers, so you’ll also need to be able to present yourself well and have great communication skills. You will complete required reports, so you’ll need enough knowledge of computers to create and update reports in Word and Excel, and to gather needed information.

This hands-on role will take much more than just experience with rounds and readings. In addition, to be an outstanding Assistant Chief Engineer, you will:
  • Achieve goals independently, but also know when to ask for help
