The Requirements

To be a strong fit for this role you should have:
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in the Data Center / Telecommunications industry
  • Expertise in DWDM, SONET/SDH Transport

  • The ability to:
    • Comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex carrier contracts; AutoCAD, Visio, and PDF documents

    • Effectively respond, verbally and/or in writing, to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints
    • Make effective presentations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
    • Estimate cost of network related products and services
    • Manage cost tracking methods for all projects
    • Participate in the bid management process by working effectively with salespeople
  • Knowledge of business rules laws, codes, regulations and ordinances in regards to contract negotiations

You'll be based out of one of our main offices, preferably New York or New Jersey, but we'd be willing to consider exceptional candidates from other major cities where we have offices. In addition to these requirements, you should be able to travel up to 20% of the time.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Product Management Connectivity Network Services, you’ll join one peer who will work specifically with Cloud products. Your specific responsibility will be in managing the revenue growth, profitability, and efficiency of our IP & traditional bandwidth services product portfolio. These network service (“Connectivity”) products include Metro Connect, Extended Cross-Connect, Data Center Private Line, & IP Connect. Our connectivity offerings have recently been standardized and branded, and now we’re ready to ramp up the product portfolio.

You’ll bring your strong understanding of the technology to come up with new products and services. This may include collecting input from other departments or even forming a cross-functional team to analyze the feasibility of new connectivity-based products and platforms. Once you have one (or multiple) new offerings in mind, you will create formal business cases and product descriptions, present those to senior managment, and work as a facilitator between the various internal organizations to ensure product policy and processes are negotiated, documented, and executed accurately. For products that are approved, you’ll work with marketing to take it through an initial successful product launch. After launch you’ll complete lifecycle management tasks, such as determining profitability, solving delivery issues, improving efficiency, etc.

Though you’ll work together with your Director on all of these tasks, you’ll have a good deal of individual responsibility. You’ll spend about 70% of your time working on product rollout and management, and helping the Director with higher level strategy. The rest of your time will be spent on completing administrative tasks associated with your products and completing detailed analyses.

Some of your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Development & launch of new connectivity offerings through definition of customer requirements, assessment of customer needs, and evaluation of comparative competitor products
  • New product planning through prioritizing opportunities, shaping value propositions, developing business cases, and conducting a “make or buy” analysis
  • New product introduction through close collaboration with Marketing on product marketing activity including product awareness campaigns and specific product-based promotions often targeted per region or vertical industry segment; this responsibility also includes facilitating sales training on the DLR Connectivity service portfolio and network ecosystem
  • Post-launch product lifecycle management including analysis of how the product is performing and how products can more efficiently be priced and delivered to customers, generation of product-specific revenue and profit / loss reports, and a quarterly refinement of product pricing as needed
  • Joining customer sales meetings in order to present DLR’s capability on connectivity service delivery
  • Performing an integral role in obtaining competitive cost proposals from underlying suppliers as part of the bid management effort
  • Leading the effort to further automate the product pricing workflow process as part of this presales role
