The Role

You will report to the Vice President, Risk Management, and be part of Digital Realty's Legal group. Your specific activities in this area will include:
  • Developing and administering the risk management intranet site with a focus on the development of data collection and reporting tools, and WIKI features; you will be responsible for the risk management department data management

Why Digital Realty

Intriguing challenges, high impact -- if you're the person we're looking for, you are driven to take on and master new challenges, learning as you go. As you drive the development of the new database you will help figure out how to compile information in different formats from different sources, expand your skills in SQL, SharePoint, and more. Once the database is online, it will be an invaluable tool for risk management and sustainability management, helping both groups add value for internal customers and the company.

Professional development -- you will develop an understanding of risk and sustainability as they apply to both aspects of our business: real estate and data centers. In this role you will expand both your database and analytical experience, and gain a bird's eye view of our company as you interact with people through out the organization.

Career options -- success in this role could set you up to pursue diverse career opportunities within Digital Realty. Just for example, you might look at joining the acquisitions team, or perhaps support Sales with RFP projects, or provide risk management insights for construction engagements.

Support green initiatives -- we are committed to improving the performance and energy efficiency of our data centers through the creation, adoption and promotion of industry-leading best data center practices. Not only do we build to LEED and BREEAM certification requirements, but we also are pioneers in thinking about green data centers, including being a contributing member of The Green Grid. You will support these efforts with both direct analysis and with the database you help develop.

The "best of both worlds" -- you'll find that working for our company may be a little bit different. We are small enough, with only 800 employees across the corporation, that your hard work will be visible throughout the organization. At the same time, we offer an extensive portfolio of services and solutions.

Unique culture -- we are a collaborative, people-focused company dedicated to quality and continuous improvement. When you become a member of our team, you receive our commitment to your continued development and support.

Stable profile -- our financial strength and stability provide our customers with the assurance that Digital Realty will be their data center partner for current data center needs and those in the future. Our investment-grade debt ratings provide us with access to capital to support the growth of our company, provide financing options for our customers, and continually invest in our properties.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a strong salary and performance based bonus, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurances; flexible spending plans for multiple purposes; a health savings account; a 401(k) plan with company match and much more.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will have wide-ranging interests and possess an insatiable curiosity for all aspects of the company's operations -- including technical disciplines (design and construction, facilities engineering, IT) as well as administrative and regulatory functions. You will be building both human relationships across the company and data paths to "stay in the know" and keep abreast of activities impacting the company's risk profile.

If you're looking for a position in which you can spend all day at your computer and rarely interact with others, this is not the position for you. There will be plenty of "heads down" computer and analytical work, but you also will need to be proactive about reaching out and developing contacts in different areas of the company.

You will need to pay close attention to the details in this role, but you'll also need a firm grasp of the bigger picture and how the details fit into it. You'll have plenty going on at any given time, so you will need to be adept at managing multiple activities and setting priorities. We'll look to you to achieve goals independently, but you also should be comfortable contributing as a team member.
