The Requirements

To meet the basic qualifications for this role you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Data Center Product Manager, Services opportunity, you also should have:

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in product management for professional services (ideally), managed services or equipment resale in the data center or colocation fields
  • 2 to 3 years of leadership or management experience
  • In-depth understanding of the data center market and associated services, including colocation and/or scale product and market
  • Experience working with third party vendors
  • Familiarity with IT Services such as networking, cloud, hosting and telecom
  • In-depth understanding of the services market -- including market trends, competitors and pricing fluctuations -- as these topics relate to multi-tenant data center providers
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management processes and development/management of products
  • An understanding of cost modeling and fluency in interpreting financial metrics like ROI, ROIC, EBITDA and gross/net margins
  • An understanding of the breadth and fluidity of product management, from sales and marketing to operations to finance and accounting
  • Experience selling, implementing or managing professional services engagements is a plus
  • Bilingual skills are preferred but not required
Our preference is that you are based in San Francisco, New York or Dallas, but we also will consider highly qualified candidates in any city in which Digital Realty and/or Telx have a facility. You'll need to be able to travel about 25% of the time.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Product Management, Colocation, you will lead efforts to standardize and productize data center services and then provide the product management leadership to meet and exceed revenue growth, margin and churn targets. Quick question for you - click here To start out you will be an individual contributor, leveraging existing internal resources, but as the product line grows we may bring on additional staff under your supervision.

Some services are already in place, including Remote Hands, Colocation Services, Equipment Resale, Implementation Services and Electrical Fit Outs. Currently we handle these more as one-off transactions, and you will transform them into standard services regularly offered by our sales teams. You also will lead the development of new products, such as establishing environmental setup as a professional service. In addition, we'll welcome your good ideas for other potential services.

In all cases, of course, the goal is to maximize revenue per square foot in our data centers, and you will drive strategy and product lifecycle management accordingly. You'll also assist with development and management of resale agreements for Digital's Scale business.

More specifically, you will:
  • Manage the full lifecycle of Digital's Service Products to ensure that we have a complete understanding of our current product set and where it falls within the PLM cycle to ensure that we have an appropriate product strategy
  • Work closely on a cross-functional team to improve our Quote to Cash process to reduce the time it takes for Digital to get from Quote to Cash and increase our revenue
  • Work closely with the Director of Product Marketing to maintain up to date knowledge of competitive landscape, market trends and product/sales collateral; this will include providing Sales the tools needed to be effective and assist the department with proper decision-making
  • Assume ownership of cost models by site and pricing for all Service Products to ensure that:
    • We have a detailed understanding of what our costs are by site so that we can provide reliable margins on a deal-by-deal basis
    • Service products are priced appropriately within the market
  • Provide sales training and development to ensure that the Sales team has the proper sales training required to appropriately sell the Service products
  • Oversee inventory management, working with the different Operations, Engineering and Finance organizations to ensure that Digital has the appropriate amount of inventory available within the right markets to hit our growth targets
