The Requirements

To meet the basic qualifications for this role you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Assistant Chief Facilities Engineer opportunity, you also should have:
  • An associate's degree (AA/AS) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated strong management and leadership skills.
  • Strong HVAC, mechanical, and electrical skills and experience.
  • A trade license or certification acquired through technical education/training is preferred
  • Facilities maintenance certification is a plus.
  • An understanding of computer systems, and skill with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions and processes precisely and carefully.
  • The ability to walk around a good deal of the time to perform inspections, to do some work outdoors in the weather if needed, and to lift heavy objects.
You will work primarily on the day shift Sunday through Thursday. At the same time, you'll need to be flexible and willing to work other days and hours to contribute to special projects, cover when others are out, etc.

The Role

You will work with the Facilities Engineers (FEs), scheduling them to ensure coverage 365 days per year, 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. You'll spend most of your days on a variety of interesting activities. This role combines both supervisory and hands-on elements. For example, while you won't typically conduct rounds, you will follow through to ensure that the FEs are completing rounds as appropriate. You'll also ensure the team performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.

In addition, you'll be involved in break-fix efforts, construction projects and more. As mentioned above, you also will provide coaching and mentoring to the FEs to support their professional development. You and your team will focus on the underlying infrastructure systems (power, cooling, etc.) for customers' servers. Others handle computer maintenance.

Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
  • Monitoring building infrastructure systems.
  • Overseeing troubleshooting and repair of building infrastructure systems, HVAC system, electrical systems, and more.
  • Ensuring preventive maintenance is performed on all building equipment.

This is a technical job and it is heavy on the electrical side, but there are a number of diverse pieces to doing the job well. To excel in this role you will need an understanding of HVAC, electrical, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and more. You may be in front of customers, so you'll also need to be able to present yourself well and communicate well. You'll need enough knowledge of computers in order to create and update reports in Word and Excel. To complete the reports you will also need the ability to gather information.

This hands-on role will take much more than just experience with rounds and readings. In addition, to be an outstanding Assistant Chief Engineer, you will:
