Why Us

Professional development -- as a seasoned Design Engineer, we know you'll bring broad experience and skills. At the same time, the diversity of this role means that you're bound to learn new things. In addition, our success depends upon our staying on the leading edge and you will learn new technologies as we adopt them.

Impact where it counts -- we are committed to providing a unique ecosystem of open solutions that power customer growth through exceptional service . . . and you'll have a direct influence on our delivery of that commitment.

Career options -- we are constantly growing and improving. On the one hand, that means you'll need to be flexible and adaptable. On the other hand, strong performers recognize change as an opportunity. Once you have proven yourself in this role, you might set your sights on moving up in our organization. You could pursue management, make a lateral move to other departments such as IT, and follow the growth path there. You'll find ample opportunities for growth.

Work/life balance -- we work hard, but also know balance is needed to thrive in life. There is some schedule flexibility, and you may put in extra time when needed, but typically you'll work an 8 hour day with an hour for lunch. As long as you are meeting your goals, we even let you work from home a day or two each month so you can schedule that repair or cable company visit that needs to be taken care of.

Exciting time to join -- with the acquisition of Telx, Digital Realty adds robust colocation, strategic network dense connectivity, a vast and open partner ecosystem and unmatched freedom of choice to one of the world's largest data center footprints.

The "best of both worlds" -- you'll find that working for our company may be a little bit different. We are small enough, with only 1200 employees across our global portfolio, that your hard work will be visible throughout the organization, yet our extensive offering of services and solutions and proven track record of growth; stability and industry-leading innovation give you the resources and tools you need to take your career to the next level.

Unique culture -- we are a collaborative, people-focused company dedicated to quality and continuous improvement. When you become a member of our team, you receive our commitment to your continued development and support.

Strong foundation -- our financial strength and stability provide our customers with the assurance that Digital Realty and Telx will be their partner for current data center needs and those in the future, and our investment credit ratings provide us access to paths for more capital. We view each of our customers as a long-term partner.

Green standard for sustainability -- we are committed to improving the performance and energy efficiency of our data centers through the creation, adoption and promotion of industry-leading best data center practices and experience. We are pioneers in thinking about green data centers and are also a Contributing Member of The Green Grid.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to competitive compensation, we offer a comprehensive slate of benefits including insurances, PTO and more. In addition, we provide outstanding training to help you thrive and grow your career.

Keys to Success

To be successful in the role of Senior Data Center Design Engineer, you must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. There is a constant flow of work, but the work is interesting. Every installation is different and is dependent upon customer requirements, site, space, power needs etc. Many are highly complex and will require strong analytical reasoning skills -- a love of problem solving is key. Your goal -- to make the most efficient use of power, cooling and space.

In addition to your technical skills, you'll need outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to work with multiple internal stakeholders, and on occasion, customers. This really is a heavy service role, so a teamwork mentality will be key to your success.

You will know you’re hitting the mark and finding success when:
  • Work orders are timely and errors are few
  • You’re effectively building strong relationships with Sales, Engineering, Operations and others with whom you're working, gaining trust and respect
  • You’re acclimated to the point that complexity becomes enjoyable rather than daunting
  • Others are reaching out to you as a motivated and competent team member they know they can rely upon
