The Requirements

The ideal candidate for the role of Director, Talent Development will combine a strong background in organizational development and talent management with a broad and progressive career history leading to the strategic insight and tactical tools necessary to building a comprehensive employee development program that meets employee needs and organizational objectives. As long as you have strong OD and TM skills, industry experience is not necessary. 

To meet the basic qualification for this role you must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a strong fit for the role you will also have:

  • The ability to understand business goals and recommend new training approaches and curriculum to support the needs of the organization
  • Experience developing customized learning and development experiences, with a focus on leadership for a business audience
  • Experience managing a Learning Management System (LMS; Cornerstone OnDemand preferred) as well as managing a network of vendors to bring a robust suite of training curriculum to the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple priorities that need to be effectively managed, while maintaining composure and flexibility
  • Demonstrated project management and change management skills with the ability to drive programs independently

The Role

High-reaching Mission
Reporting to the Vice President, HR Business Partners, as Director, Talent Development, your high-level mission will be to manage and support the assessment of organizational needs and the overall design, implementation and evaluation of programs that facilitate the professional development, engagement and continuous learning of team members across the organization. 

In order to meet the goals of your mission and organizational objectives, you will collaborate with business leaders and HR business partners to identify and action plan solutions to talent needs, ensuring a strong curriculum that will build engagement at all levels of the organization. Instead, you’ll suggest and implement best-in-class external resources to deliver content through the LMS and other mediums. 

A Mix of Strategic Vision and Hands-on Execution
Initially, you will focus on providing tools from the VP level to mid-level managers. Over time, you will also focus on career pathing for entry-level staff and could eventually create programs for senior executives. You will be building a function from the ground up, but you won't be building and executing the curriculum yourself. Instead, you will leverage external resources, such as Learn It Systems, strategically manage vendors, serve a peer and guide for trainers, and act as a change manager when needed. With the addition of Telx, there is a tremendous amount of integration under way (for example, we're just implementing a new LMS system) and change is a constant. Your ability to use the fundamentals of change management processes to gain buy-in will be key.  

More specifically, in the following areas you will:

Learning & Development Strategy:
  • Partner with HR Business Partner team and company business leaders to identify learning & development needs and design appropriate strategies to address leadership, managerial and overall professional development
  • Work with field Training Directors to execute implementation of courses, program and curriculum to accomplish specific business objectives including:
    • Talent development
    • Emerging leaders
    • Employee engagement
Development Planning:
  • Develop strategy, process and tools to drive effective and actionable development planning for all employees
Change Management:
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of change management initiatives associated with organizational transition activities; in partnership with the HR Business Partner team
  • Conduct Gap analysis in response to identify the best approach to filling the needs of the business
  • Identify training opportunities, programs and tools to support business needs of the teams
Training Design, Development & Implementation:
  • Drive ongoing learning needs analysis, design, development, assessment, implementation, communication and evaluation of training programs to ensure alignment with business strategies
  • Redesign, customize, and enhance existing programs to build managerial and employee skills and competencies
Assess Impact of Development Programs & Solutions:
