The RoleAs a member of Data Center Operations - EOH&S, you will be responsible for the deployment of functional, localized EOH&S operations and activities on the East Coast (Boston, New York/New Jersey, Connecticut, Toronto, Virginia, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Miami. You will play a critical role in ensuring all EOH&S issues are identified and addressed by working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contractors to protect Digital Realty’s interests. In addition, you'll provide additional support and project management oversight to new and critical EOH&S initiatives.
In our decentralized model, each location is responsible for EOH&S, and you will support them, both providing direction and working alongside them. This may include implementing emergency drills, helping them complete SPCC plans, supporting quarterly EHO&S snapshots and more.
Your goal will be to ensure environmental protection, pollution prevention, health, and safety for all Digital Realty employees and sites. Your proactive approach means you are consistently working to improve data center EOH&S performance. You will meet and manage all EOH&S legal requirements while monitoring and supporting all site activity at Digital Realty’s data centers on the East Coast, and always operate according to best-in-class EOH&S practices. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you'll respond to data center EOH&S issues and incidents to minimize the impact.
You'll invest a good deal of time in four key activities:
- Identifying and addressing gaps at the sites you support.
- Ensuring adoption and success of our recently-implemented water quality/conservation program.
- Taking point on completing our annual EPCRA report.
- Leading the completion of OSHA 300 reports.

More Good ReasonsOrganized for impact
The Director, Environmental Occupational Health and Safety, to whom you will report, is decentralizing EOH&S to promote local ownership and increase efficiency, among other goals. This structure will enable you to influence EOH&S at both the tactical and strategic levels.
You won't find many positions that will allow an early-career EHO&S professional to be part of a corporate team and assume responsibility for many locations -- while continuing to acquire the kind of hands-on experience that is essential to future success.

Keys to SuccessWe value the knowledge you have acquired, but we place an even higher value on effort and results. The Director has an enthusiastic dedication to EOH&S, and you should, too. While much of the local work will be done by local resources, you'll have plenty of chances to roll up your sleeves. Not only will you help out at the various data centers, but you also will have your own tactical responsibilities. The position will offer opportunities to contribute at the strategic level as well.
You'll find that our approach is a bit unique. Compliance is important, but we believe that implementing impactful programs and promoting EOH&S as a core value will help us exceed compliance standards. That means you will need to establish yourself as a true partner to teams in the data centers, understanding their challenges, educating them, and helping them achieve their goals. There will be times when you'll need to push back, but overall a collaborative, consultative approach will be best.
Some people underestimate the importance, in EOH&S, of marketing -- presenting information to internal and external audiences in an engaging way. Digital Realty is committed to industry leadership in this area, and generating excitement helps get internal stakeholders on board, and gives our brand an edge in a highly competitive industry. This also means that all communications should be highly professional and polished.
This is a chance to get mentorship from a seasoned professional. At the same time, assuming you achieve your goals, we'll grant you autonomy in managing EOH&S in your region. Your efforts will need to align to the global strategy, of course. The Director will look for regular communication from you, so that he stays in the loop.
