To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Data Center Technician II - Remote Hands opportunity, you will have:

  • Exceptional customer-facing skills and the ability to deliver on high customer expectations.
  • Experience working with carriers.
  • An understanding of telecom structured cabling standards (fibre, copper, DS3, T1, RJ45, Cat5/Cat6, etc.).
  • An understanding of network device deployment.
  • The ability to use industry standard test equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • A commitment to quality and the motivation and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Professional business communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to communicate written and verbally.
Preferred but not required:
  • General knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory.
  • An understanding of building management systems (BMS) and branch circuit monitoring systems (BCMS).

You will join a team that will include four other Technicians, and assist all Digital Realty customers by providing "best in class" customer and technical support. This will include working with and supporting all customer demands, such as racking and stacking of equipment, cabling, cross connects, etc. Your primary responsibility will be responding to customer requests within the service level agreement time frame.

Internally, you may work with the Deployment and Implementation teams, the Global Command Center, Provisioning team and Project Management to ensure relevant installations meet delivery dates and create a positive customer experience. You also will assist other members of the Operations Team, ensuring 100% uptime to all customers.

Some projects will last a few days while others may be completed in a couple of hours. More specifically, you will:
  • Perform Remote Hands services which are tracked through the Digital Realty ticketing system. This includes, but is not limited to, the following services:
    • Equipment rack and stack.
    • Cable, terminate, and dress fiber or copper network cabling. Quick question for you - click here
    • Assist customers with the diagnosis of hardware and software issues on their equipment.
    • Power cycling of customer equipment.
    • Blade/card, memory, hard drive, and transceiver installations or removal.
    • Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits. 
  • Perform cabinet/cage audits.
  • Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices.
  • Ship and receive packages.
  • Receive, install, and test customer and internal cross connects of copper and fiber optic interconnections.
  • Use power and hand tools (screwdrivers, drills, wire strippers, punch down tools, etc.).
  • Provide timely customer and internal updates using a computer based ticketing system.
  • Perform and document inventory verification/counts.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures.
  • Assist to maintain overall data centre cleanliness and appearance.
  • Report to the facility within a 1 hour average for emergency assistance as needed.
  • Be flexible about performing other tasks as required.
