• Broad understanding of IP networks, layer 2/3 technologies, the operation of IP networks, plus familiarity with test equipment such as OTDR, OSA, BERT and/or other network analysis tools.
• The ability to understand high-level network design and impacts across the infrastructure relating to underlying hardware and software selection.
• The ability to perform (advanced level) configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of routed IP network infrastructure.
• Experience with Layer3 networking protocols including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VRRP.
• Expertise with STP, trunking (802.1q), link aggregation (802.3ad), including how to properly implement these technologies.
• Expertise with the implementation of network security (ACLs, control plane protection), with the ability to devise and enforce network security policy.
• Industry experience working with global carriers, RIRs and IRRs.
• Experience with BASH and other scripting languages (PHP, Python or Perl) and/or Ansible automation tools is desired
• DevOps skills and knowledge of best practices preferred.

Role Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Network Engineering, and working closely with the IP Product Engineer, as Senior Network Engineer, you will be part of the Network Engineering team responsible for building and operating the Digital Realty (DLR) network reliably and to scale. The team configures and installs network gear for our growing infrastructure including running cables, hardware setup and decommissioning old gear in support of our growth. The team must must maintain an aptitude for accuracy and conduct site surveys and audits to verify that each network site has been built to the right specifications. Role Details
As Senior Network Engineer, you will be on the front lines of our efforts to deploy, design and maintain the DLR network. You will work with network architects, capacity management, project managers, and engineers to gather network requirements, deploy DLR private network, create and manage our network implementation/integration plans, and create physical and logical network designs. You will use your experience in networking, data centers, and colocation to establish and improve best practices and procedures. The objective is to build the world’s most reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network to support DLR customers. More specifically, you will:

• Rack and stack, install, commission and test routers, transport (DWDM) equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across our network.
• Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans and work with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware/software and create deployment standards.
• Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
• Work closely with project management, network engineering and rest of the engineering team to identify in advance potential problems in network installations, including in the areas of facility power (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout and cable management.
• Work with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware/software and create deployment standards.
• Activate and test circuits on routers, switching gear, WDM gear, and other network equipment in new network nodes around the US.
• Perform site survey, documentation, engineering and deployment for network expansions and new site deployment.
• Creation of BOM’s, and Engineering packages for new site builds.
• Provide project management to technical team to coordinate complicated network platform and service deployments.
• Identify new technologies and alternative networking systems to enhance customer experience
• Identify operational issues and implement design alterations to address these issues
• Understand technical issues and the implications to the business, and be able to communicate them with other operation departments within the business
• Generate and update documentation on operational procedures, network topology, and customer database
• Maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging state-of-the-art computer/network systems technologies, architectures, and products
