To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a strong fit for the Technician I opportunity, you will have:
  • 1+ years of experience in a data center (preferred), telecommunications, Central Office / Head End or another IT-related environment  Quick question for you - click here
  • Basic understanding of telecom structured cabling standards
  • Understanding of network device deployment
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organization skills and attention to detail
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to move between multiple sites (approximately 1.5 miles apart)
Preferred, but not required, requirements:
  • Experience using industry-standard test equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with CompTIA A+ / Net + Certification
  • Knowledge of Telcordia installation standards
  • General knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory 
  • Understanding of Building Management System (BMS) and Branch Circuit Monitoring System (BCMS)
  • Knowledge of inventory control
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Explorer) or equivalent programs
The physical demands of the role include the ability to: 
  • Lift and handle up to 50 pounds
  • Bend, stoop, and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of network devices, materials, or equipment
  • Work under a raised data center floor
  • Climb ladders (up to 16 feet) to reach plenum spaces
You will train on the day shift and then must have the flexibility to join the teams' rotating schedule including days (7 AM - 3:30 PM) and second shifts (11 AM - 9 PM), as well as overtime when needed. We also have a standby call list for after-hours calls (i.e. earn 4 hours when you're the team member to respond first).

Reporting to the Remote Hands Manager, as Remote Hands Technician I, you will assist Digital Realty customers by providing best-in-class customer and technical support. You will support all customer requests, which may include, racking and stacking of equipment, cabling, cross connects and more. Internally, you may work with the Deployment and Implementation teams, the Global Command Center, Provisioning team and Project Management to ensure installations meet delivery dates and create a positive customer experience.

In Santa Clara, we have nine buildings, three of which tend to be very busy, including scale and colocation customers. Daily, you will work within Digital Realty's ticketing system and primarily be responsible for responding to customer requests within the Service Level Agreement time frame. You may also assist members of the Operations team to ensure 100% uptime for all customers. Your tasks may include, but not be limited to, the following services:

  • Cable, terminate, and dress fiber or copper network cabling
  • Assisting customers with the diagnosis of hardware and software issues on their equipment
  • Power cycling of customer equipment
  • Performing cabinet/cage audits
  • Blade/card, memory, hard drive, and transceiver installation or removal
  • Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits
  • Assisting with migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices
  • Shipping and receiving of packages
  • Receiving, installing and testing customer and internal cross connects of copper and fiber optic interconnections
  • Using power and hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, drills, wire strippers, punch down tools, etc.)
  • Providing timely customer and internal updates using a computer-based ticketing system
  • Assisting with the documentation and inventory verification/counts
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintaining overall Data Center cleanliness and appearance
  • Working flexible shift schedules, including overtime
  • Reporting to the facility within a 1-hour average for emergency assistance, as required
