This role requires a self-starter and strong decision-maker who can work autonomously

To be a good fit for the Data Center Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • 4+ years of management experience, including at least 3 years of experience leading data center operations teams in a large-scale mission-critical environment.
  • 4+ years of related facility management experience in data center operations (or in a related electrical or mechanical engineering field).
  • Experience in data center electrical, mechanical and network system operations, with knowledge of large-scale data centers, including state-of-the-art electrical distribution systems, static and rotary UPS, emergency standby generation, fire alarm/suppression and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT development, network architecture and design; knowledge of Cisco, Oracle and/or Juniper software systems or similar preferred.
  • Proficient experience in colocation operations, including the installation and deployment of cage, rack and cable infrastructure, as well as, power circuit installation and power monitoring.
  • Project management experience and ability to develop installation standards and project tracking/management documents. 
  • The ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex project documents; familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio, and PDF documents.
  • Ability to take ownership of engineering and remote hands operations including 24/7 on-call availability.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, as Data Center Manager, you will be responsible for all day-to-day operational aspects of our Oakland facility, including managing the Engineering and Remote Hands teams, working with data center staff, including security, and cross-functional peers, and directly interacting with customers. You'll have two direct reports (the Managers of Engineering and Remote Hands) and 9-12 indirect reports responsible for executing facility engineering and remote hands activities. 
 
There is a significant customer-facing aspect to this role. You will provide superior service to tenants and property owners, while also expecting the same of all other building staff. You'll need to be comfortable communicating with both existing and potential customers, leading tours, assisting deployment efforts, space planning and design activities, and more. As Data Center Manager, ultimately you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing operational strategies to ensure data center operations achieve the highest level of availability. Quick question for you - click here

A sampling of specific responsibilities includes:
  • Overseeing the execution of all aspects of data center operations including the operation, maintenance and repair of all mission-critical equipment and systems supporting a 24x7 data center operation to achieve 100% uptime and 100% compliance with all customer SLAs 
  • Data center construction management, commissioning and start-up
  • Installation and management of all cable and network infrastructure supporting facility and customer connectivity
  • Technical event management including post-event root cause analysis and infrastructure repair
  • Oversight of general facility operations, including, but not limited to, security, janitorial and other facility management functions
  • Scheduling, coordination and completion of all significant planned and emergency maintenance events for the facility; managing customer communication around planned and unplanned maintenance
  • Identifying and recommending operational improvements to be implemented on site
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory of available space and power in the building
  • Managing internal resources and vendors to meet important customer timelines and deliverables
  • Understanding all leases and ensuring compliance with lease terms at all times
  • Managing, directi and coordinate the activities of internal or contracted personnel or third parties who are providing services or performing work within the assigned property.
  • Supervising security personnel and managing security systems including the adherence to security policies and compliance programs
